Review Emotion Tandemonium Sit On Top Kayak

"Emotion Tandemonium Kayak"Emotion Tandemonium Sit On Top Kayak focuses on fun for the family. It is Emotion’s second largest kayak and it’s widest. It is the width of this kayak (36 inches) that adds to its stability on the water.

The kayak is very well suited to two paddlers and Emotion have not stinted on leg-room for the paddlers. Both paddlers can stretch their legs right out in front of them, which will be a relief for cramped muscles after a wee bit of paddling.

The high backed seating (the high back is optional) is comfortable and has been arranged so that the seats can be moved to incorporate a third seat in the middle of the kayak. This is a great set-up for a child or even a pet. Talking of pets, if you do take a dog along, it really should have a life jacket too. And it is inadvisable to go paddling with a dog if you know there are alligators around. Dogs are seen as fair game.

The Emotion Tandemonium Sit On Top Kayak seats are attached to cleats on the top sides of the kayak. Behind the seat of the stern paddler is a 10 inch covered storage hatch with more storage area up front on the bow deck.

There are two molded cup holders in front of both seats and self-draining holes on the kayak floor.

What has been done to protect the Emotion Tandemonium sit on top kayak against the sun’s UV rays? UV resistance is added to the polyethylene so that the kayak stands up to the sun’s rays.

What about carrying the kayak to and from the water? Well, the kayak weight is almost 70 lbs. It’s also 13 ft 7 inches long so carrying it solo is not an easy thing to do. Two people can carry it easily, and wheels would make it easy to transport for one person.

Emotion themselves offer good advice on care and on carrying their kayaks.

One last item worth a mention is the design of the hull. This is a tri-hull design which normally means the hull touches the water along three lines while ‘grooves’ are found between these 3 points having the same affect as a trimaran. The design is for stability. There is a noticeable hump running from bow to stern visible when you look at the kayak when it is turned upside down.

The Emotion Tandemonium sit on top kayak is a well-built, well-designed kayak for a family. It remains steady in various types of water, though it cannot be confused with a whitewater kayak. It can carry a load of up to 550 lbs. {It’s name Tandemonium is a play on the word ‘tandem’ which is usually associated with two people}

Take a look at it on Amazon by using the Search Box on the top RHS of this page. You will find it’s full specifications and it’s shipping charge. This can be viewed against Emotion’s own RRP.

Review Old Town Heron 9 Recreational Sit In Kayak

"Old Town Heron 9 Recreational Kayak"

Old Town Heron 9 Recreational Kayak

The Old Town Heron 9 recreational sit in kayak is noticeable because of the ease with which it is moved forward on the water by the paddler and the straight line tracking. The underside of the kayak hull has the shape of a rudder.

The shape of the kayak is sleek and streamlined. It is noticeable too that there are very few molded embellishments on the deck. It’s lines are crisp and simple.

The Old Town Heron 9 recreational sit in kayak has an oval shaped open cockpit, wider at the stern edge and narrower where the paddlers’ legs fit in the bow. This means the cockpit is easy entry, easy exit – there is plenty of room to get in and out.

The seat is padded while the back rest is easy to adjust and is done so by pulling and clipping a cord to best position. The seat is attached to the kayak with two screw type fittings found on the deck. (Could this be a place to easily add a paddle leash? Old Town’s site has no link to the offer of a warranty so personally accessorizing the kayak via these screws is probably possible.)

The Old Town Heron 9 Recreational kayak’s 39 lb weight makes it easy to carry by hand over short distances.

There are foam inserts in the bow and stern which gives the kayak extra flotation especially in the unlikely event of a capsize. (Some people practice capsizing their kayaks and then getting onboard again so that they are prepared should such an event occur.)

Old Town’s Heron series came onto the market in 2011. Both XT models and fishing models complete the series. This short Youtube link gives an overview of the Heron series which includes the Heron 9 kayak.

The Old Town Heron 9 recreational sit in kayak is a kayak which any beginner or intermediate paddler would be happy to use. It is well priced for lots of fun on the water. Use ‘Old Town Heron 9′ as the search terms in the Amazon search box at the right hand top corner of this page in order to view this kayak.

Review Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler Sit On Top Kayak

Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler Kayak

"Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler Kayak"

The Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler sit on top kayak is said to be synonymous with the Wilderness Systems very popular Tarpon 120 fishing kayak. This may be so, as these two companies, as well as Perception itself now fall under the canopy of Confluence Watersports.

There are slight modifications in the ‘sit-in’ area of these two kayaks, with the Tarpon 120 having a better finish. Compare the views below and see if you can spot the differences.

Tarpon 120 Angler Kayak

Tarpon 120 Angler Kayak

There are at least five.

Without the purchase of a pair of wheels, it is likely that two people would have to carry this kayak to the water. It weighs in at 60 lbs which is less than the Tarpon’s 70 lbs. For the inexperienced, the first few launches from this kayak may need a helping hand to hold the kayak steady.

The kayak comes with a flush mounted rod holder and a baitcaster rod holder as well as a 3.5lb anchor system.

The Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler sit on top kayak tracks really well, even from the first paddle stroke. (None of the nose ‘doing a little jig’ with each paddle stroke.) View it in this brief clip when it is on the water. (The clip is not in English, but the kayak’s performance doesn’t need a spoken translation).

Looking at this kayak from a ‘bird’s eye’ angle very clearly shows the relationship between the paddler and the rest of the small boat.

In front of the feet area is an oval hatch with a removable cover. There is an easily get-attable round covered dry storage on the floor in front of the seat.

The whole seating area of the Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler sit on top kayak is gently angled, the only ‘leg separation’ is found at the feet where the foot pegs are. This fact helps to keep the body from becoming too tired – at least it would, were it I in the paddling seat. The older generation may well find being unable to change one’s leg position frequently, tiring. The foot separation has a integrated cup holder.

It is possible to stand up in this kayak, but it’s not advisable to do so for long periods. It is not very stable, standing up requires some balancing, so one would not think of standing up to cast.

Should the Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler sit on top kayak overturn, it will simply float in the upturned position. Getting back onto it is not difficult, especially if the exit and entry is practised a few times in the water.

Behind the seat, there is another round storage hatch while beyond that is a large molded storage area with deck cording. There are carry handles fore and aft and a molder rudder groove is found at the stern end, should the fisherman or paddler want to add a rudder.

On the whole, this is a great kayak for the price, though the paddle is a separate purchase. Being able to stand up and cast may appeal more to some fishermen. Use the Amazon Search box at the top RHS of this page for up to date pricing of this kayak plus its shipping cost. Or use the search box for fishing items and accessories.

Review Riot Escape 12 Angler Sit On Top Kayak

"Riot Kayak Escape 12 Angler Sit-On-Top Flatwater Fishing Kayak"

Riot Kayak Escape 12 Angler Sit-On-Top Flatwater Fishing Kayak

The Riot Escape 12 Angler Sit On Top kayak has the advantage of 5 rod holders, four of which are flush mounted and the other is adjustable with a neat little rotating clip to hold the rod in place.

Two of the flush mounted rod holders are found on the deck area in front of the kayakers feet, while the other two are on the deck area behind the seat. The fifth is handily placed in front of the seat within easy arms reach on the deck area, on either side of the kayakers legs.

The deck area of the Riot Escape 12 Angler sit on top kayak also supports an integrated covered console with a removeable tray. This is somewhere to place small fishing tackle. Behind the seat there is a molded storage area where gear is held in place with elasticized shockcords.

The seat is worth a mention because it is high backed and both seat and back are padded. (Long days out on the water might lead you to purchase extra padding.)

The 2″ x 4″ screwable deck plate which provides watertight storage of small items is found with the opening in front and at the end of the paddlers feet. More storage is found in the front hatch. It’s cover is pliable and can be slipped off and on fairly easily.

The lifelines along the outer edge of the kayak are reflective for easier recognition and in the event of it being necessary to find the kayak at night. All in all, a good piece of thinking.

The Riot Escape 12 Angler sit on top kayak has an anchor trolley system – always a useful item for the fisherman enabling hands free fishing in the same spot. A drainplug is found on the deck so that any water collecting inside the hull can be drained away. This helps to keep the kayak free from mold.

Another piece of equipment is the flip-over rudder system with maneuverability through an angle of about 60 degrees after it has been dropped.

The bulkheads are both sealed. The Canadian manufacturers of this kayak award it a 5 year warranty. This comes with the fact that the kayak is recommended for flat water conditions. Video clips can be found on Riot’s site for this kayak.
So the Riot Escape 12 Angler sit on top kayak’s big pluses are its 5 rod holders, the anchor and rudder systems, the two sealed bulkheads and the dry storage areas. Add these together and compare that with other angler kayaks in this price range. This one compares very favourably.

Experienced paddlers would find the kayak’s tracking ability easier to handle. There is a noticeable bow swing when the kayak is in the hands of new paddlers. The kayak weighs in at around 70 lbs. Keep this in mind because it may be that a pair of wheels will be necessary to transport it easily.

Use the Amazon search box to view the very competitive price of this kayak and at the same time check it’s shipping cost.

Review Emotion Edge Kayak

"Emotion Edge Kayak"
The Emotion Edge kayak is a large capacity kayak with plenty of performance. It is 9’9″ in length, weighs 37 lbs is 29″ wide and has a carrying capacity of between 275 and 350 lbs.

Loaded to 350 lbs though would mean that you would be paddling on flat water. A lighter load would be sensible for moving water.

The Emotion Edge kayak performs well on the water and this is due to the shape of the hull. Emotion call it a quad-plane hull. What this means is that from the centre line of the hull, there are four definitive upward angles to the deck of the kayak. Each ‘step’ created by each ‘angle’ helps with tracking and keeps the water flowing smoothly under the kayak.

The kayak has no frills in terms of accessories.

The shape of the kayak is not symmetrical across its width. The bow comes to a point, while the stern has a short straight edge. The drag handle and drain plug are found here on the deck. (There is another carry handle in the bow.)

The kayak widens noticeably from the stern up to the middle of its length. The cockpit is easy entrance, easy exit and has foot braces. There is no padding to protect against chaffing. The seat has padding as does the adjustable back rest and the seat resides in its own enclave which is very slightly narrower that the rest of the cockpit.

The stern is shaped into a keel, while the bow is pointed to slice through the water.

This is a kayak worth purchasing for a tall, well-built person who wants a boat which responds quickly, tracks well and maneuvers easily. A 240 cm paddle is recommended for tall paddlers. (Need it be said that the kayak would respond in the same manner to a smaller person as well.)
